Urban Nomads
Multi media project |
In cooperation with online platform De Correspondent we made four shorts about these urban nomads. The nomads who lived on a piece of land for almost three years got evicted and didnít have any place to go. A source of inspiration for this project is the philosopher Foucault who wrote about `exclusion mechanisms` of Western cultures. The urban nomads seem to be a response to the over-rational society. What to do with those who `not fit`? Not everyone is born to live in today`s fast paced society that has very high demands on the individual. The photo`s of the Urban Nomads were made in front of their homes because every `house` reveals some of the owner`s identity. This series of photos was published in NRC-Next.

Laura
9000 homeless kids |
The goal of the project `Van de Straat` (Of the street), is to shed light on the homeless situation of 9000 kids living in the Netherlands. Together with Rebekka van Hartskamp, I made a short about an 18 year old girl named Laura. It was published by De Correspondent. We will be continuing this project for the next two years, by following other kids and documenting their struggle to find themselves a more solid base.

Open Rescue
Animal rights activists |
These activists shown in this film are in the middle of an open rescue. An open rescue is when activists enter a place where animals are being exploited. They take a few animals with them in order to give them a better life. The activists do this without hiding their faces. Everything is being filmed and spread on the Internet. By giving up their identities they take a huge risk.
